About Open Badges and Open Badge Factory
Overview
Open Badges and the Open Badge Passport system are free and easy to use for badge recipients. If you have additional questions or concerns about the process and systems involved, then please continue reading. We have assembled a few relevant links.
Open Badges are a standard that started with Mozilla, support.mozilla.org/products/open-badges, and are continued at 1EdTech. 1EdTech operates openbadges.org. This has some of the best current information about the Open Badges standard.
Until June 2023, RapidMiner independently created and hosted Open Badges according to the Open Badge standards. Starting in June 2023 we now award them in the Open Badge Factory & Open Badge Passport System. This provides you with an easy way to accept your badge, and immediately put it to use with Open Badge Passport. After you create an account with Open Badge Passport, you may also add additional information, associate additional e-mail addresses with the account, and upload other badges you have earned.
If you choose not to work with Open Badge Passport, then simply do not accept your badge. You still have the option to do nothing, or download and add it to another system that can host Open Badges.
More Open Badge Factory (OBF) Detail
RapidMiner works with the OBF to create your badge. The information sent through this system is the e-mail address that you used to login to the RapidMiner Academy and take the exam, and the ID of the badge that you earned, and the RapidMiner OBF account ID.
OBF uses a one-way hash of your e-mail to associate the badge with you. So the e-mail cannot be extracted from the badge, but the badge can still be verified against your e-mail. Once you accept your badge and verify the matching e-mail, then it will be available in Open Badge Passport (OBP). It will be in your existing account if you have one, or you can create a new free account.
